Born Kamuela Kuali'i Kalani Kapu Kamehameha Lindsey, aka Sam Monet is the webmaster (librarian) of the Hawaii Resource Library is a native. In the London of 1790's Robert James Fay spoke out against the government and was convicted of treason, then sent to Botany Bay, a convict colony in Australia. Fay and two other convicts escaped on a stolen boat. They shipwrecked on the Kohala coast of the Big Island at Kawaihae in 1825. Fay was hired by Parker Ranch founder John Parker to hunt wild cattle. On a trip to Oahu, Fay fell in love with a Hawaiian princess named Kaipukailaiikapuokamehameha, hanai (adopted by) to a Kahuna (priest), a daughter of Kamehameha I. Fay and Kaipukailaiikapuokamehameha moved to Waimea on the Big Island where they started a sheep ranch, saw mill and ice factory. They had a daughter,
Mary Kaala Fay. She was attending the Priory in Honolulu when she met Captain Thomas Weston Lindsey of the Barkentine Don Quixote. Weston and Mary eloped. Weston fell ill and died. Before his death, Weston asked his brother, London barrister George Kingston Lindsey to take care of his wife Mary. George Lindsey later married his deceased brother's wife Mary. They had 10 children.
One of those children was Sam MonetÕs grandfather, Charles Weston Lindsey III. Mr. Monet has his roots firmly planted in HawaiiÕs soil, water and air. An avid windsurfer and surfer/sailor , his interest in Hawaiian history is not just a job, it is a passion.
